Why this project?

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) provides trade facilitation services in Standards Quality Management, Metrology, and Testing (SQMT), including the WTO/TBT National Enquiry Point, certification and accreditation. There is need to reform the national SQMT policy and legislation in conformity with an EAC-wide framework; upgrade SQMT and conformity assessment facilities and equipment, and train and raise awareness on the new SQMT regime. TMA will provide support to KEBS in order to carry out this mandate.

What:

How:

TMA will provide financial and technical assistance to KEBS to support development of legal and regulatory framework and training KEBS and non KEBS quality officials. KEBS will on a day to day basis manage consultants. Procurements and contracting will be done by TMA.

Desired Results

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) simplify and increase the transparency of import/export procedures; producers improve the quality of products produced; bureau of standards staff and producers improve their understanding of standards and requirements. Together, the results leads to national bureau of standards improve efficiency and effectiveness of testing.
