KENYA LAUNCHES RECTS ON MALABA BORDER • 2017-08-14
Authorities in Kenya have started operation of the new Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System, or RECTS, to support transport operators in the Northern corridor region.
The RECTS system was launched earlier this month by the Kenya Revenue Authority and Siginon Global Logistics, and eases cargo movement via the Kenya/Uganda Malaba border and helps connect Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
“The RECTS system guarantees cargo safety and security as the cargo is transported within the African region. The expectation is that the system will also act as a deterrent against highway theft … The technology also tackles soft issues such as drive behavior while on the highways to ensure that safety is observed at all times,” said Job Kemboi, manager at Siginon Global Logistics.
Siginon Global Logistics is part of the Siginon Group, headquartered in Mombasa, Kenya. The group operates in cities across the Africa region, employing 200 staff.
