In a groundbreaking partnership backed by USAID-ERRA funding, Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) and TradeMark Africa (TMA) have taken a step to revolutionize Kenya’s agricultural landscape through the development of the Agricultural Sector Data Gateway (ASDG). This state-of-the-art digital platform will provide real-time, comprehensive agricultural insights and arm stakeholders with the information they need to strategize and make impactful, evidence-backed decisions.
Capturing real-time data on the supply side of agriculture production in Kenya will help Kenya develop a food balance sheet of supply and demand and support the government’s early warning system to ensure better food security. It will also help optimize supply chains for food trade and exports of agricultural commodities as there will be better sight on first mile flows. This initiative aligns with USAID-ERRA’s support for digitalization to support more structured trade and strengthen food systems across Eastern Africa.
To formalize this partnership, Mr. Kello Harsama, the immediate former Principal Secretary MoALD, and Mr. Ahmed Farah, Country Director of TMA in Kenya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective entities.
